Leshan 乐山 & Emeishan 峨眉山

Leshan (Lèshān) is best known for the Giant Buddha, carved into a riverside cliff during the Tang dynasty. The scale is difficult to appreciate until standing near the figure or viewing it from the river.

Mount Emei 峨眉山 (Éméi Shān) is one of China's sacred Buddhist mountains. Temples, forest trails and mountain transport lead toward the high summit area at Jinding 金顶 (Jīndǐng, Golden Summit).

Combining the two

The two places are close enough to combine in a short trip. A common pattern is to visit Leshan first, transfer to the Emeishan area for the night, and continue up the mountain the following morning.
