Dazu Rock Carvings 大足石刻 (Dàzú Shíkè)

The Dazu Rock Carvings are a group of religious sculptures and inscriptions created over many centuries. The most important concentrations are at Baodingshan and Beishan.

Baodingshan 宝顶山

Baodingshan (Bǎodǐng Shān) contains large, highly detailed sculptural groups arranged along rock faces. Buddhist narratives are presented with an unusual combination of religious symbolism and scenes drawn from everyday life.

Beishan 北山

Beishan (Běishān) is quieter and more intimate, with numerous niches containing finely carved figures. Visiting both sites gives a much fuller impression of the artistic range of Dazu.
