Chongqing 重庆 (Chóngqìng)
Central Chongqing is built across steep hills between the Yangtze and Jialing rivers. Roads, metro lines, bridges, towers and pedestrian levels overlap in ways that make the city feel almost three-dimensional.
Highlights
Hongya Cave 洪崖洞 (Hóngyá Dòng) is a brightly lit riverside complex especially popular after dark. Liziba Station 李子坝站 (Lǐzǐbà Zhàn) is famous for a monorail line passing directly through a residential building.
Ciqikou 磁器口 (Cíqìkǒu) preserves a traditional street layout and provides a contrast with the modern centre. The city's museums are useful for understanding the Three Gorges region and Chongqing's wartime history.
